Heads Up for Garden Lovers: Ruth Bancroft Garden Closed to Visitors Through Nov. 11

Garden closes for winter prep, reopens to visitors Nov. 12

The will be closed to visitors through Nov. 11 for the installation of winter covers, according to the garden's website.

The popular garden specializes in succulents and many of the plants require special protection from winters rains and occasional freezes.

The garden's office will remain open weekdays during the cold-weather preparations.

The next special event at the garden is the "Succulent Holiday Centerpieces Demonstration," scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. Space is limited and advance registration is required. The workshop costs $25 for the general public and $20 for RBG and Garden Conservancy members.

Register for this event by calling the office at 925-944-9352 or by faxing the registration form with credit card information to 925-256-1889. You may also mail this form with a check to 1552 Bancroft Road, Walnut Creek, CA 94598.

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous".
