New Church Ushers In New Year

Open Table Church meets Sunday at Civic Park Community Center.

It's the start of a new year.

And, say the organizers of a new enterprise in Walnut Creek, what better way to start anew than with a new church?

The Open Table Church plans its first service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Civic Park Community Center on Civic Drive at Broadway.

"We aim to keep church simple, remove the clutter, and focus on Jesus, His message and His mission as revealed in the Bible," wrote Pastor Wayne Phillips in an email. "We do not want to draw people away from the churches they presently attend. We want to help people who are disconnected from God or church take a step into a low pressure, friendly place to re-connect with God and others.

"At OTC we keep church simple, remove the clutter, and focus on Jesus, His message, and His mission as revealed in the Bible. If you are exploring Jesus, this is a safe place to come, learn, and ask questions."

Open Table welcomes to its community people from every stage of life — whether single, newly married, families or empty nesters, according to an Open Table Press release.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous". A reasonable overview of the current regulations can be found here: http://risk.utah.gov/newsletter/documents/playground_surfacing.pdf If you disagree with the regulations, please contact your representatives.
