When Fast Dogs Slow Down

The story of a foster family caring for a greyhound retired from racing.

A veteran foster parent to retired racing greyhounds, Ellen Fox of Walnut Creek, has a big backyard known as "Doggie Disneyland" with many amusements for racing dogs in autumn.

In the Pet Tales column of the San Francisco Chronicle, Fox tells the story of a greyhound named TV Dru Tang, veteran of 251 races, who had to make a few adjustments in retirement.

Many homes are found for retired racers through Golden State Greyhound Adoption, an agency based in Walnut Creek.
