Walnut Creek Death Notices

Some of the people with ties to Walnut Creek who passed away recently

Shirley Barnum, a resident of Walnut Creek since 1964, was born in Arizona. She attended Arizona State University. She worked as a real estate broker in the Walnut Creek area for 25 years. She liked to ski in Tahoe and travel the world. Barnum died on Nov. 2 at the age of 81.

Inga Doeff, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Sweden. She taught economics in Sweden before moving to San Francisco in her late 20s and accepting a job as a cook for a Pacific Heights family. She and her husband eventually moved to El Cerrito and raised their family there. Doeff returned to work in the late 1980s as a pediatric nurse at Oakland Children's Hospital. She was an active member of the Swedish Women's Education Association. Doeff died on Nov. 5 at the age of 77.

Bernice Mills, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Bronx, New York. She spent most of her adult life in Los Angeles, where she met her husband. She worked and volunteered in the school system there. She also volunteered at UCLA and the Los Angeles Public Library. She worked as a travel agent after her husband died in 1981. Mills moved to Walnut Creek in 2008 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She died recently at the age of 81.

Lillian Louise Steffens Waram, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in St. Louis. She attended Radcliffe and Mary Institute. She worked for 30 years as chief financial officer for Noon International, retiring at the age of 94. Before that, she managed bookstores in Connecticut and Southern California. Waram died on Nov. 6 at the age of 96.
