Some of the people with ties to Walnut Creek who have passed away recently

Charles Herbert Adams, a former resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Iowa. He attended the University of South Dakota, where played football, earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education. He served in the U.S. military during the Korean War. He moved to Walnut Creek in 1958 and became an intermediate school math teacher. Over the years, he was also a vice principal at Parkmead Intermediate and principal at Walnut Creek Middle School and then Buena Vista Elementary. He retired in 1991 and moved to Pacific Grove with his wife. Adams died on Dec. 16 at the age of 84.

Fred Funel, a former resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Milan, Italy. He fought against Italian dictator Benito Mussolini during World War II. He emigrated to the United States and lived in San Francisco and Walnut Creek. He died in Arnold, California, on Dec. 20 at the age of 89.

Doris Tosaw Hayes, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Texas. She was a registered nurse who served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. She also worked for 20 years at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame. Hayes died on Sept. 19 at the age of 90.

Lois Stohr Semmelmayer, a former resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Rochester, New York. She was a lifelong lover of antiques who worked as a docent at the Shadelands Ranch Museum and served on the board of the Walnut Creek Historical Society. Semmelmayer died on Dec. 15 at the age of 82.

Odette Ticoulat, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in France. She emigrated to the United States in 1930 at the age of 17. She and her husband owned a number of businesses. Ticoulat died on Dec. 12 at the age of 90.

Hazel Mae (Scott) Yaxley Heinemann, a resident of Walnut Creek, was born in Mentor, Ohio. She lived there until moving to Walnut Creek 16 years ago to be near family. Heinemann died on Dec. 16 at the age of 97.
