2 Nabbed, Accused of Trying To Steal ATM in Walnut Creek

Police report one suspect, from Pleasant Hill, hid inside ceiling tiles when they arrived. The other was in a car acting as a lookout.

Police arrested two people Sunday in connection with an ATM burglary in Walnut Creek.

Police responded at 6:30 p.m. to Kaiser's Yosemite Building at 320 Lennon Lane after receiving a report of a person inside using a crowbar to steal an ATM machine, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.

Police said responding officers searched the building and located Kurt Kaumans, 47, of Pleasant Hill, hiding inside the lunchroom's drop ceiling tiles.

Police said Kaumans had cash from the ATM on him.

Police said Kaumans was also involved in previous break-in attempts on the same machine.

As officers were searching the building, they saw a vehicle circling the area. Police said Suzanne Breatt, 37, was driving the vehicle and had Kaumans' driver's license and burglary tools with her.

Police also said she was speaking with Kaumans via cell phone during the burglary.

Kaumans was arrested on suspicion of three separate counts of commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, felony vandalism, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy and resisting arrest.

Breatt was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and driving on a suspended license.
