Alameda Man Locked Up Friday for Kidnapping That 9-Year-Old 'Victim' Now Says Never Happened

The Alameda Police Department reported today that the attempted kidnapping of a child that reportedly occurred Friday was false.

Once the kidnapping report was deemed unfounded, APD personnel went to Santa Rita Jail, Dublin, and filed paperwork to immediately release the 53-year-old Alameda man arrested Friday afternoon.

Brian Rourock, of Alameda, was arrested for suspicion of battery, kidnapping and annoying or molesting a child after he allegedly grabbed the girl around 4:30 p.m. Friday. The purported victim now states she never had contact with him, police said, and only was familiar with him from her neighborhood.

On Sunday, the 9-year-old victim’s mother contacted APD after she overheard her daughter making statements that caused her question the validity of the original story, police said.

Upon further investigation, APD said detectives learned that the juvenile fabricated the entire kidnapping story, including self-inflicting minor wounds on her body to make it look like a struggle occurred.

The juvenile also admitted that she never had any contact with the male arrested, but only knew of him from her neighborhood, police said.

Rourock has no pending charges from this incident, police said.

Investigators will be conducting further follow up regarding the false police report to determine an appropriate resolution, police said.

In Santa Cruz County last week, a 14-year-old girl went to authorities reporting she was assaulted while walking after school by a stranger -- a story she allegedly retracted two days later. Story here.
