BART Delayed Wednesday Morning After Police Search in Oakland Tunnel

BART trains are running again in the East Bay after a brief disruption this morning while police inspected the tunnel near the Lake Merritt station in Oakland, an agency spokeswoman said.

Police activity was reported near the Lake Merritt BART station around 6:45 a.m., affecting service on the Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, Richmond and San Francisco/Daly City lines.

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said police inspected the tunnel after an access door was found open.

The search confirmed no one was inside the tunnel and trains resumed running through the area as of about 7:25 a.m., Trost said.
