Update, 4:30 p.m. Sunday, detailing intersection where accident took place.
A bicyclist who was injured in a collision with a vehicle has died, Walnut Creek police said.
The bicycle was traveling north on Bancroft Road around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday when the cyclist was struck by a southbound Toyota SUV, police said.
The bicyclist, identified as James Connelly, 88, of Concord, sustained injuries and later died at a hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
The accident occurred on Bancroft Road near Mayhew Road. Concord police are also involved in the investigation as the accident occurred near the civic boundary, the Contra Costa Times reported.
At a hearing earlier this month about plans for a day care facility to move into a house on Mayhew Way, there was much discussion about speeding and traffic backups at Mayhew and Bancroft Road.
