Black ice caused two accidents on a commuter road in Lafayette on Thursday morning.

The slippery ice was reported before 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Pleasant Hill Road just north of Olympic Boulevard.

Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen said the ice caused one vehicle to skid sideways and roll over onto its side.

Another vehicle popped a tire and ended up in a flower bed.

No serious injuries were reported.

Christensen said public works crews have put sand and salt on the portion of Pleasant Hill Road where the ice formed.

He said trees shading that section of roadway prevent the ice from melting in the early morning hours.
