Cause Of Fatal Walnut Creek Fire Is Still Undetermined

A week after the blaze on Hilltop Crescent, investigators still aren't sure what started the fire

Investigators still haven't determined what started a fatal fire one week ago in a Walnut Creek home.

Charles MacDonald, 62, was found dead on the second floor of his home on Hilltop Crescent after firefighters extinguished the flames in the Jan. 10 fire.

Fire investigators say they may know early next week what ignited the blaze.

In addition, Contra Costa coroner officials say they haven't yet determined exactly what killed MacDonald.

They are waiting for toxicology reports. That process could take 8 to 10 weeks.
