Concord Grass Fire Snarls Highway 4 Traffic

Blaze burns two acres near Willow Pass Road exit; no injuries reported.

Firefighters on Friday afternoon extinguished a one-alarm grass fire burning alongside state Highway 4 in Concord.

For a time Friday afternoon while the fire was battled, traffic slowed to a crawl on Highway 4 as authorities closed the far right-hand lane of eastbound Highway 4 near Willow Pass Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The blaze, reported shortly after 2 p.m., burned about two acres of
vegetation along eastbound Highway 4 near the Willow Pass Road exit in Concord, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported. Fire crews were able to control the flames in roughly 30 minutes, a dispatcher said.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
