Concord High Mourns Montreal Blakely, Dead at 17

Blakely, a senior at Concord High, is remembered as a "happy kid" with "lots of prospects" who loved football. He was fatally shot Saturday night in San Francisco. Did you know Blakely? Share your memories in the comments.

Monday morning started with a moment of silence for the students at Concord High School as the community mourned the loss of 17-year-old Montreal Blakely, a Minutemen football player and hard working student with a 3.8 GPA.

Blakely was shot and killed Saturday evening in San Francisco. Police have not released any further details about the incident.

Fellow students at Concord High quickly learned of the tragedy through social media, said Principal Dr. Gary McAdam, and were "stunned."

The school had grief counselors on hand Monday, and on the wall beside the school entrance, a student had taped a picture of Blakely with the words, "R.I.P Montreal Blakely[.] You will be missed..."

"He was a happy kid," said McAdam, who was Blakely's teacher at Glenbrook Middle School before Concord High. "He took his studies seriously and was excited about football."

Blakely was planning on attending a U.C. college, according to McAdam, and had "lots of prospects."

The teenager had his senior picture taken just hours before being killed, and prints of the smiling teen arrived Monday morning.

A memorial for students and parents is planned Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Concord High.

I love and miss you so much little cousin. You were definitely a light that shined bright all the time. The one who stood out in a crowd, very loving, and focused on school. The heartbreak we are all feeling now seems never ending. You are truly truly missed and will never be forgotten. Love always and forever, Nikki
