Couple Shot by Masked Man Driving on Ygnacio Valley at Oak Grove Road Sunday Night

A man and woman were shot tonight on westbound Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek and authorities are looking for a masked shooter driving a light-colored car.

The two victims were taken to John Muir Hospital for treatment, and their condition is unknown at this time, police said.

The Walnut Creek Police Department reported that numerous 911 calls were logged at about 7:51 p.m. after several shots were reportedly fired at a couple in a white Mercedes-Benz at Ygnacio Valley and Oak Grove Road.

Witnesses said two cars -- the light-colored sedan and the Mercedes -- were driving westbound on Ygnacio Valley, approaching the red light at Oak Grove and pulled up alongside each other, when the sedan's driver began firing into the other car's front passenger window, police said.

The shooter --described as a black male in his early- to mid-20s, wearing a black three-hole mask and armed with a semi-automatic handgun -- then exited his car, firing more rounds into the victim’s vehicle, striking both the female driver and a man in the front-passenger seat -- a couple who had just left a concert at the Concord Pavilion, police said.

The suspect then fled in his car northbound onto Oak Grove Road.

The shooter was reported by witnesses as between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans, police said. His vehicle was described as a light-colored sedan, possibly a Honda.

The police investigation has shut down westbound Ygnacio Valley Road. Motorists are being advised to avoid taking westbound Ygnacio Valley Road due to a roadblock near Cowell Road, police said.

Instead, westbound drivers should take Cowell Road to Treat Boulevard to avoid the blocked area.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the above is encouraged to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.
