Suspect Charged, Crash Victim ID'd

Update: Woman who died in pickup truck-pedestrian accident Saturday in Walnut Creek was Sherry Hicks, 52, a Santa Barbara teacher.

The victim of has been identified as a Santa Barbara woman.

The woman who was pronounced dead at the scene was Sherry Hicks, 52, of Santa Barbara, the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office reported, according to the Walnut Creek police.

A second woman who was walking with Hicks at 6:15 p.m. Saturday on a sidewalk in front of the Marriott hotel received serious injuries in the accident, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Hossein Tabrizi, 53, of Walnut Creek, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter Saturday night, police said. Tabrizi was medically cleared at the hospital around 3:45 a.m. Sunday and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for one count of vehicular manslaughter, Walnut Creek police reported.

The district attorney's office said Tabrizi had no prior criminal record in Contra Costa County, NBC Bay Area reported. Tabrizi was in custody on $50,000 bail, the sheriff's office reported.

There is a Linked In reference for a Sherry Hicks in Santa Barbara, a lead teacher at Olive Grove Charter School for the last decade. Hicks was on vacation in Walnut Creek to visit her son and his new wife, the woman now in John Muir Hospital with serious injuries from the pickup truck-pedestrian collision, according to the Contra Costa Times.
