Creek Diva: Coyotes, Catalytic Converters and Cabbies

Incidents from the Walnut Creek police log July 1-7.

Friday, July 1

Dude, where’s my car? A caller phoned police about his missing Jeep, insisting to the dispatcher that he knew where he'd parked it. He called back a few minutes later, saying he'd found it.

A serious move: A man named James was arrested on a charge of assaulting a police officer at 11:58 a.m. on the 1100 block of Locust Street.

Saturday, July 2

Kicking it in jail: A man was arrested after he was seen “kicking cars” on a felony warrant at 1:28 p.m.

Protesting the protesters: Apparently some of the political picketers downtown ticked a few folks off enough that they called the police.

Three counts for her: A woman was arrested on three felony warrants for prostitution and soliciting with intent to prostitute.

Nighttime vandals: A red Honda Civic had all four of its tires slashed overnight. The car was parked on Arkell Road.

Coyotes need love, too: Kudos to the citizen who helped an injured coyote this evening on Rudgear Road.

Sunday, July 3

Early revelry: People were gearing up a for the 4th of July a little too early. Calls about loud parties, fireworks and the usual holiday-related hijinks were in abundance.

Quack attack! A daring duck was seen “jumping out in the street” on N. California and Mount Diablo Boulevard. Mom and ducklings were given a “police escort back to the creek.”

Forget the floaties: You may not bring flotation devices when swimming at Clarke Memorial Swim Center at Heather Farm. A female who refused to remove her floatie from the pool was asked to leave.

Don't give them a chance: Two purses were stolen out of a silver Mazda Protégé on the 2400 block of Stewart Avenue. You know what Creek Diva has to say about this: Take your valuables with you.

Monday, July 4

Sparks flying: Fireworks are illegal in Walnut Creek but that didn’t stop several folks who were setting them off at all hours.

Common crime: A catalytic converter was stolen from a Toyota 4Runner on the 400 block of N. Civic.

Kindness of strangers: Thank you to the citizen who found a wallet on Rudgear and S. Main Street near the Iron Horse Trail. The rightful owner was contacted.

Home boosts: A woman on the 1800 block of San Luis Road reported that her mother’s home was burglarized this morning. Electronics and kitchen accessories were stolen. Another burglary took place on the 1300 block of Cornwall Court.

Party at your own risk: Two juveniles were cited for possession of alcohol when a caller reported a loud party on the 1000 block of Rudgear Road at 10:39 p.m.

Tuesday, July 5

Could have been ugly: There was an intense traffic stop on the 2300 block of N. Main Street after the WCPD pulled over a car with no plates. The juvenile driver, who had two loaded firearms, one in his pocket, was arrested. The driver’s friend also was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Creek Diva learned an interesting fact recently: More than 80 percent of those arrested in Walnut Creek do not live here.

Makes no sense: Foothill Middle School was vandalized with “unintelligible writing” on several of the buildings.

Put your mind at rest: Are you going on vacation soon? Did you know that the WCPD offers free vacation home checks while you are away? www.walnutcreek.org/citygov/depts/police/vacation_house_checks.asp

Bumpy return: A resident on Greenwood Circle came home from vacation to find his home burglarized and his 2005 silver Audi, license plate 5MCJ312, stolen from his garage.

Cruelty to cabbies: A cab driver picked up two customers in Concord and dropped them off at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. One of the customers “sprayed the driver with a chemical spray” and robbed him of his cell phone and cash.

Wednesday, July 6

Check the ID, people: Unknown suspects used a stolen credit card to purchase $15,000 worth of jewelry from Davidson & Licht in Broadway Plaza. Insane; don’t they check ID with that large of a purchase?

Thursday, July 7

Wheels gone: A storage locker was broken into on Player Court. Two road bikes valued at $1,500 were stolen.

Creekside Glen kids: Creek Diva has asked nicely and called your residential manager, who refused to help. Now, she’s had it. Playing in a driveway until nearly 11 p.m. isn’t smart. Parents, stop neglecting your kids or Creek Diva will call the police again.
