Crime & Safety

Creek Police Beat: From car burglaries to bobcats to worries that a missing roommate might be selling herself on Craigslist …

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day--so you don't have to. Here she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the sometimes bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Here is what people were calling the Walnut Creek police about Friday July 16 to Thursday July 22. And, there are some special Creek Diva shout-outs to some good citizens who did the right thing!

July 16

Police arrested a man on suspicion of a possible sexual battery a little after closing time, at 2:03 am in the 1400 block of Locust Street. The man was also taken into custody on a probation violation.

Not all who wander are lost. A call came in at 3:05 am reporting a man wandering around the San Benito Drive neighborhood… ended up being a guy who was disoriented by his new blood pressure meds.

Kudos to the citizen who turned in a wallet this afternoon! The rightful owner was able to pick it up at the police station that afternoon.

July 17

Seriously? A caller phoned in to complain about the band that was playing at the American Cancer Society Walk-A-Thon at Heather Farm Park.

That must have been some opening party they had for the new Library… someone reported that the beautiful new library had its doors unlocked at 7:30 a.m.

July 19

Summer hooligans perhaps burned the boy's bathroom sign at Foothill Middle School… Five more weeks of summer vacation folks!

Ouch! A dog at Buena Vista Elementary bit a child. The child was okay and did not need further medical help.

Oh, that kind of Bobcat…. Neighbors at Ross Place/Carlos Court couldn't figure out who left a Bobcat truck parked on the street.

July 20

Bravo, Bravo to the great citizen who turned in found cash at the Police Department! Two for two! Another report of a found wallet a few hours later!

Poof, flash, gone. A camera is reported missing by a possible visitor from Australia. The reporting party was leaving the country. Bummer, hope you get your camera returned.

No merit badge for these two! Two males were reported driving and cussing through a Boy Scout Camp area at 3:50pm up at Castle Rock Park.

An employee at Diablo Hills Golf Course on Marchbanks called police this afternoon after watching "six men look like their up to no good" on the ninth. The employee was watching this suspicious looking golf gang via camera. Hung up when the call was transferred to the CHP.

Family troubles: An 80-year-old resident of Shuey Avenue had his home broken into. A restraining order violation and now a burglary charge for the grandson.

July 21

Lock your doors folks! At 7:46am, a resident in the 1800 block of Cannon Drive reported a car break-in inside his garage! Vehicle was unlocked and the owner lost to a thief a  GPS, iPOD, CDs--and church paperwork.

Be on the look out for a stolen bike! Described as Titanium/Silver Dean with black handlebar tape. It's a 14-speed men's model. Nothing stinks more than a stolen bike!  Later this day, a 16 -peed Grey Dean bike found in the middle of Northgate Road. I hope there is a happy ending here!  My green 10-speed Schwinn circa 1989 is still MIA.

Not cool! Hit and Run: reporting party has a 2006 Silver VW Jetta that was hit in the past 24 hours. Might be a neighbor that drives a red car. In the area of 100 Roxanne Court.

Another friendly reminder to not leave any valuables in a vehicle. At 4:10 p.m., someone in the 1800 block of North Main Street had a brand new Apple computer stolen out of a Black Dodge Durango. It only takes one swift window smash! even in Walnut Creek.

July 22

I thought I had some interesting roommates! A caller reported a little after 12 pm to say that his or her roommate had not been home in a few days. The caller thinks she is working as a prostitute on Craigslist. Police are investigating.
