Creek Police Beat: Missing Yorkie and Thieves Target Broadway Plaza Parking Lots

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the sometimes bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Here is what people were calling police about Thursday, May 26 to Thursday, June 2:

Thursday, May 26

What was that noise?  Loud noises were heard coming from Ygnacio Plaza shopping center at 12:35 a.m. Police determined  that the noise was coming from ongoing construction along Ygnacio Valley Road.

Gas thief: Someone was seen stealing gas from the tank of a truck parked on Brubaker Drive.

Did you lose a bike recently? And did your bike have a certain colored water bottle strapped to it? A kind citizen found it in a field near Walnut Avenue and turned it in to police.

No smoking, even if it's medicinal--which in this case it probably was not! And don't do it at a gas station, like these two men. They were seen at just before 11 a.m. in a Chevy truck smoking from a bong at a gas station on Civic Drive and Ygnacio Valley Road.

Stolen van recovered: Someone stole a Ford E350 van belonging to UC-San Francisco on Sunday, May 22. The Contra Costa Sheriff's Department recovered the dark blue van in San Ramon.

Someone found a ring in the 1200 block of Locust Street and booked into police property. Meanwhile two rings went missing from a home on the 400 block of La Corso Circle.

Friday, May 27

Take me out to the ball game ... and make sure you get home safely. An allegedly intoxicated Giants Fan walked into the  wrong home on Homestead Avenue at 12:41a.m. His wife was able to pick him up and get him home safely.

A car and bicycle collided in the 300 block of El Divisadero Avenue at 8:59 a.m. The cyclist "sustained several injuries." Get well!

A smash ‘n’ grab occurred on Crown Court overnight. The target? A Toyota Tundra, from which the thief stole a laptop and wallet.

Several drivers around town were cited  for having registrations expired for more than six months. Get off the road or do the right thing and pay your registration fees!

Saturday, May 28

Fight at the Vice: Two men were arrested on suspicion of assault at 1:14 a.m. at the Vice Ultra Lounge on Arroyo Way.

An unlocked back door to a home on San Bento Drive was the unfortunate point of entry for a burglar who snuck in between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and stole jewelry.

Downtown garage thefts: Creek Diva has noticed quite a few car break-ins at various downtown parking lots and structures. The most recent occurred on the second floor of the Locust Street garage closest to the Century Walnut Creek Downtown 14 movie theater. The thief smashed a rear window and swiped a white MacBook laptop.

Kids, I hope you said “thank you”! A citizen found a bicycle and a scooter on Ramsey Circle. Turns out they were left by some “irresponsible kids.”

Not so smart: An under-aged female reported that her purse went missing on the 600 block of South Broadway at 3:53p.m. However reports stated that she “left her purse in the bathroom after trying to buy alcohol under age.”

Sunday, May 29

Early Sunday morning business for WCPD as usual:  Police arrested a few people for DUIS and towed several cars to make room for the Sunday Farmers Market on Locust Street.

A man was found unresponsive in a bush on Normandy Lane at 8:27 a.m. An officer the man a ride home a block away.

Home burglary: A burglar snuck in through an unlocked garage on Rachele Road between 10:30a.m. and 2 p.m. and stole a Greg Lemond road bike and a Motorola droid.

Laundry room heist: Someone stole $700 worth of lingerie out of a laundry room on the 1400 block of Marchbanks Drive this evening.

Monday, May 30

Transient spat: A transient loaned his DVD player to another transient who didn’t give it back … Police listened to both men's complaints at about 7:50 a.m. and gave advice.

Noisy chain saw: Yes, it is legal to use a chain saw on a holiday in Walnut Creek. A caller on Westcliff Lane reported hearing the sound of one blasting at 11:57a.m.

Lost dog! A pint size Yorkie went missing on North Broadway near Whole Foods Market. You can find more information about the lost pup here: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pet/2413673125.html

Tuesday, May 31

Bizarre: An axe was found in some bushes on Arroyo Way at 12:22p.m.

Drugs by mail will land you in jail: The UPS store in the Countrywood shopping center intercepted a package that possibly contained a “narcotic substance.”

Wednesday, June 1

To the jerk who continues to vandalize knock it off.

Kudos to the kind citizen who found a wallet on the 1100 block of South California Boulevard this morning. Thanks to your good deed, the rightful owner picked it up at the police station the same day.

Traffic stop arrest: A man was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, as well as three felony warrants, when an officer stopped him in a 1998 Ford 4D at 12:42p.m.at Treat Boulevard and Blarney Avenue.

Thursday, June 2

Car theft: Someone overnight stole a  two-door black  1995 Honda Prelude, with the license plate 3PYD587, from the 1400 block of Creekside Drive.

School vending machine targeted: Someone vandalized a soda vending machine in the quad at Foothill Middle School. The vandal took coins as well as the machine's "dollar validator."

Broadway Plaza crime spike? It seems that an unusual number of cars have been burglarized and license plates stolen from the shopping center's parking lots. Thieves even took a bumper from a 1996 Cadillac Seville.

Great job WCPD dog officer Orfas. He helped catch a burglary suspect who had  broken into a garage in 1600 block of Camel Drive. Extra treats for you Orfas.

Someone found a bag of cosmetology supplies downtown and turned it over to police.
