Creek Police Beat: More Missing Pants, M&M Miscreants and Stinkin' Thieves

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Here is what people were calling the police about between Feb. 21 and Feb. 28:

Monday, Feb. 21

Early morning drama: There was high-speed chase that started on Masters Court when a man driving a white Toyota Highlander peeled out after reports that he broke into an apartment at 3:07 a.m.

No love lost: In the spirit of awards season (Oscars, Grammys), the oddest 911 call goes to … a woman who dialed 911 at 6 a.m. saying, “Someone needs to be picked up 'cause they’re committing adultery and are losers” on Newell Avenue.

Two counts for him: A man was arrested on suspicion of stalking and contempt of court on the 500 block of Banyan Circle at 8:04 a.m.

Worst graffiti award: Some idiot spray-painted “We love meth” on the 400 block of Castle Rock Road.

Tuesday, Feb. 22

Word to the unwise: A woman's purse was stolen at Safeway on South Broadway at 9:49 a.m. The purse contained her ID, wallet and eyeglasses. Creek Diva crime tip: Don’t ever leave your purse in a shopping cart.

Bad performance: A bus from Rossmoor was rear-ended in front of the Lesher Arts Center just after 10 a.m. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Ask and ye shall not receive: Two aggressive solicitors were asked to leave the parking lot of the CVS in the Countrywood Shopping Center on Bancroft Road for soliciting without a permit at noon.

Pull 'em up, guy: A man named Larry was walking around with his pants down on the 1400 block of N. Main Street. What’s with the pantless trend in this town lately?

Drug arrests: Two subjects were arrested on La Casa Via this afternoon on suspicion of prescription drug fraud, conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance.

Expensive mistake: $40,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a home on Saklan Indian Drive at 6:03 p.m. A rear slider door was unlocked at the time of the crime.

Well done, PD! A driver was arrested in connection with a hit and run that occurred this afternoon. Creek Diva hopes that one day the driver who caused her serious accident four years ago will be brought to justice.

Wednesday, Feb. 23

Time to move along: To the owner of the trailer parked on Tampico and Los Vecinos, it’s been three weeks since you moved it. Your neighbors would appreciate it if you found another home for it.

Bad actor: A magazine solicitor was going door to door in attempts to raise funds for “acting school” on Normandy Court at 1:15 p.m.

Sweet tooth offenders: Two men stole a pack of M&M’s from a business on Sunnyvale Avenue. The owner confronted the two men and they fled. The “suspects steal from the store every day and live nearby.”

Thursday, Feb. 24

Do you know him? The 7-Eleven on S. Main Street was robbed at 2:36 a.m. To view a photo of the suspect, see our story .

Didn't have to happen: A man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence at 11:47 a.m. He might not have been caught had he not rear-ended a vehicle with his truck on N. Main Street and Civic Drive.

Babies' ride stolen: A blue double stroller, valued at $500, was stolen from a business on the 1500 block of Bothelo Drive.

Let's right this wrong, people: Nothing would make Creek Diva and the people of Walnut Creek happier than for police to catch the people who burglarized the home of Matthew Miller, one of the Las Lomas High students who died in a rafting accident over President's Day weekend. An anonymous citizen has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who broke into the Miller home while his family was attending a service for their son. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Walnut Creek police Detective Rick Baca at 925-a256-3534 or Walnut Creek police dispatch at 925-935-6400.

Friday, Feb. 25

Think before you dial: There were an astounding six accidental 911 calls before 5 a.m. from various locations. A reminder: The nonemergency WCPD phone number is, 925-943-5844.

Funny money: A resident on Ellesmere Drive reported mail fraud that included checks that were altered and cashed. An investigation is pending.

Ouch: A father reported that someone stole his son's Macbook Air and charger. No suspects at this time.

Codeine Olympics return: Two men jumped the counter of a pharmacy on the 700 block of Bancroft Road and stole several prescription bottles. The crime took place in the evening before 8 p.m. A Clayton man recently was arrested for similar crimes.

Kiddie Kuffs: A 4-year-old accidentally locked herself in handcuffs that had been purchased earlier at a garage sale. Police were able to free the kiddo.

Saturday, Feb. 26

That's a heart thumper: A woman thought her 4-Runner was stolen overnight on Creekside Drive but it had been towed because it was parked on private property.

Place needs some love: A home on Arlene Drive whose tenants had been evicted recently was burglarized and ransacked.

He has what? A caller thought he or she saw a man standing on the overpass near Olympic with a 3-4 foot rocket. Police did a sweep of the highway and surface streets but did not locate the man or the rockets.

Sunday, Feb. 27

Put down the glass: It was a busy Saturday night and early Sunday for the WCPD. Four arrests were made on charges of DUI and public intoxication within 45 minutes. Another DUI arrest was made after someone reported that a motorist was passed out behind the wheel of his car on Main Street and Creekside Drive.

Dog with nine lives: A car on Homestead Avenue hit a dog at 2:37 p.m. The dog was OK and was reunited with its owner.

Eau de Crime: Thirty-on bottles of perfume valued at $49 were stolen from a business at Broadway Plaza.

Monday, Feb. 28

Protect precious lives: To the driver of an SUV with license plate number 6GNK318: A caller phoned police contending that your children were not properly restrained in car seats or seat belts. Be careful, please!

Where's the fire? A $1,000 fire hose tester was stolen from the 400 block of N. Civic Drive at 11:30 a.m.

A sick call: Someone called a Whitecliff Way resident and demanded $10,000 or else the caller would “kill family members.” No names were mentioned and a report was taken.

Legal beagle says 'no way': A man named Robert has been causing mayhem all over town and this afternoon he was escorted out of the city attorney's office.
