Creek Police Beat: No, those weren't gang tags but a Mothers Day message

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the sometimes bad, silly and annoying things the police have to handle.

Here is what people were calling police about Friday, May 6 to Thursday May 12;

Big kudos to WCPD officers who recovered a stolen vehicle on Treat Boulevard and Jones Road at 9:01 a.m and arrested the suspected car thief. Well done!

Give your dogs some air: To the owner of a red Nissan, license plate number 6GNC404, you were parked this afternoon on the 1100 block of Civic Drive. FYI, a concerned caller was worried about your dog sitting in a carrier in the back. You had left the dog inside the car with the windows rolled up.

Disturbing! A person received two strange voice mails messages yesterday a few hours apart stating that a baby was in a Dumpster behind a baseball field. Police confirmed that the phone call was a hoax.

Thanks to the citizen who found an iPhone downtown and turned it in to police.

Smile and say, 'Creepy': A woman was trying on clothes at a store on the 1800 block of Ygnacio Valley Road when she noticed someone was snapping her photo with a cell phone. Police say that the photographer works at the store.

A man was seen “stumbling in the street,” carrying a duffel bag near Buena Vista Avenue and Parkside Drive. He was arrested shortly after midnight on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property and public intoxication.

Creek Diva had high hopes about the arrest of an Antioch woman and suspected of preying on cars downtown, especially near Arroyo Way. Sadly, items still are being stolen from cars. Folks, please remember to take your valuables with you. Check out from WCPD officer Randy Dickey in his recent Walnut Creek Patch blog. Trinity and N. California avenues seem to be a hotbed of smash ‘n’ grabs lately, so be on the lookout!

Marked as abandoned: Do you have a black and gray Suzuki motorcycle parked on the 1300 block of Creekside Drive? You may want to move it; it’s been marked as an abandoned vehicle.

Smokin’ mad! A woman was upset with an employee at a North Civic Drive business after she purchased a hookah — she intended to buy an electronic cigarette. The sales clerk was unable to process a return.

Sunday, May 8

Uncommon sense? Two men, booted out of a business on Arroyo Way, were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at 2:22 a.m. Word to the wise: If you get the boot, get in a cab and go home.

To the jerk (or jerks) who toilet papered and egged a home on the 200 block of Conifer Lane, go apologize and clean up that mess. Police have the license plate number of your Toyota.

Stupid criminal alert! An anonymous caller told police this afternoon that there was a “gun in a white Volvo being driven by a Russian currently at the Rite Aid." The caller was referring to the drug store on Tice Valley Boulevard. He did not want to give his name because “he turned in drug dealers last week in Oakland.” To complicate things, the caller subsequently was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

What’s the deal with people trying to pass bogus Coinstar vouchers at Safeways around town? A man was almost caught, but police could not find him after he tried to pass a voucher at the Safeway on Tice Valley Boulevard.

Monday, May 9

Someone smashed a passenger side window of a Honda parked on Walnut Boulevard overnight and stole an iPod and GPS device.

Not what you think: A caller reported that graffiti had been scribbled on Dos Palos Drive and Corona Place. It wasn’t gang tags or anything like that, but a Mother’s Day chalk message.

Huge haul: Someone made away with $4,200 worth of True Religion jeans from a Broadway Plaza store at 2:26 p.m.

A woman left her car keys on the tennis court while she played a set at Heather Farm Park. When she was finished playing, she noticed the keys were missing as was as her silver Honda Civic, license plate number 6GDS497.

Tuesday, May 10

Are they in town? “The Mexican Mafia” was spray painted on a wall on the 1100 block of Locust Street.

Bicycle theft: A woman reported that her green Santa Cruz super lite bicycle was stolen from the John Muir Medical Center parking lot. Police advised her to use the WCPD online reporting form.

Wednesday, May 11

Yay for the citizen who found a purse at Civic Park and turned it in to police.

Senior smackdown? A caller was worried about an elderly couple waiting for the bus on the block of 1400 N. Main Street after witnessing the woman hitting her husband with a cane. Police determined it to be an argument in which the man teased the woman about her weight. They apologized to each other.

Anything but routine: A routine traffic stop resulted in a man being arrested on suspicion of being in possession of narcotics for sales, burglary tools and stolen property. Well done, WCPD.

Thursday, May 12

Car burglaries: Someone broke into a vehicle in the 2700 block of Oak Road overnight, stealing a PG&E laptop. Thieves struck another car on the road, smashing a vehicle window but not taking anything. On Alvarado Avenue, a thief broke into a Chevy Tahoe and stole golf clubs and a laptop.

Copper thefts: City workers notice that copper wiring had been stolen from the city light poles at the tennis courts at Heather Farm Park over the past few days.

To the jerk who stole a kid's scooter from the skate park at Heather Farm Park, that was a real punk move. Give it back.
