Creek Police Beat: Put On Your Pants and Put Down the Drink

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the sometimes bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Here's what people were calling the police about from Feb. 6 through Feb. 11.

Sunday, Feb. 6

This sounds familiar: A fight broke out on Locust Street and Giammona Drive at 1:43a.m. The man who was arrested refused to properly identify himself.

Drop him, girl: A car along with a cell phone and money were reported stolen from the 3000 block of N. Main Street. Police  said the culprit was identified later as the boyfriend of the car's owner.  It ended well, with the car's return.

Ouch: Police say a person was hit in the head with a beer bottle but when officers questioned the injured at Kaiser Medical Center, the individual refused to answer questions about the incident at 2:34 a.m.

Locks are good: A handicap access van was broken into via an unlocked door on San Pedro Court. A purse was stolen.

Overconsumption: An inebriated man was brought to the hospital after someone found him passed out on the Iron Horse Trail near Lincoln Avenue and Mount Pisgah Road at 10:25 a.m.

Child endangerment: A woman driving a white Chevy Tahoe was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment after a caller reported that the driver looked dazed and had almost hit the curbs on Citrus Avenue and Oak Grove Road.

This again? A patron at Redux lost her debit card and drivers license. The card was then used at Club Vice on Arroyo Way, as well as at other locations in Concord and Antioch.

Strange theft: A set of silver Danish spoons were stolen from a home on Banyan Circle. Their worth — $6,200.

Monday, Feb. 7

Electrical mayhem: A transformer blew up on Geary Road this morning, closing the road. Read more here

A dangling sight: A man was walking around the 1600 block of Ygnacio Valley Road at 7:55 a.m. with no pants. He was arrested on a charge of being drunk in public.

Spare key alert: A white Land Cruiser license plate 5AAR423 was stolen out of a driveway on Crown Court overnight. The thief most likely used the spare key hidden under the bumper.

Kindness and honesty: Kudos to the citizen who found several credit cards in the gutter near Tupelo Drive. They were returned to the rightful owner.

Converters are hot tickets: Catalytic converters are being stolen at an alarming rate all over town. This time, a catalytic converter was stolen from a Toyota flat bed truck on the 2500 block of N. Main Street.

Burnt food: Buckhorn Grill is closed temporarily by a grease fire. Read more here.

Just noticed? A man called about someone attempting to steal his bike from a patio on the 500 block of N. Civic Drive three weeks ago.

Brazen thief: Another bike — a tan GT Peace mountain bike —that was locked in front of the downtown library was stolen after its lock was cut. FYI, Creek Diva uses two bike locks when she locks up her bike downtown.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

Dangling sight, Part 2: Is this a new fashion trend or just an unfortunate incident? A man sans pants was arrested on a charge of being under the influence of narcotics on the 2300 block of N. Main at 5:20 a.m.

No gardeners, these: Three men were thrown out of a bar on the 1500 block of N. Civic Drive after they messed up some plants. They fled the scene.

Wednesday, Feb. 9

Sticky situation: A former landlord was trying to collect March rent for his now bank-owned property on the 2700 block of Buena Vista Avenue. The tenant was given advice about the civil matter.

Knife at school: Two Foothill Middle School students were arrested for being in possession of a knife on school grounds at 12:29 p.m.

Music, owner reunited: Kudos to the citizen who found an iPod. The owner picked it up later that afternoon.

iFraud: A male attempted to purchase two iPhones from the Radio Shack on Ygnacio Valley Road with five fake $100 bills.

Package pilfered: Someone stole a FedEx package from the front porch of a home on the 1200 block of Singingwood Court this afternoon. No suspect at this time. A $45 memory card was stolen.

Fire alert: A fire broke out in an office building on the 1800 block of San Miguel.

Thursday, Feb. 10

Check that door: A garage was left open overnight on Comistas Drive. A car was broken into and a briefcase and laptop taken.

Drunken duo: The infamous Bret of downtown was arrested again on a charge of being drunk in public, along with his pal Robert at 10:17 a.m.

Shady solicitor: A man on Karen Lane at 1:55 p.m. was asking to “get help with a communications review of the neighborhood.” A resident phoned police, who told the solicitor to get lost until he had a permit.

Angry patient: A man was reported to be threatening his former dentist about a referral issue, saying he would “come after” the dentist on the 1800 block of San Miguel Drive. No further info is available.

Larcenous moms? A group of ladies, one of whom was pregnant, were followed by Broadway Plaza security, who said one of them stole socks with “green turtles, size 0-3 months.” Could these be the same ladies who stole things from Victoria’s Secret last year?

Sucker punch: A kid was punched in the stomach in the mosh pit during a show. Not nice, kids. A show should be fun, not a smack down.

Friday, Feb. 11

Booze boosted: Four bottles of Roseblum zinfandel worth $100 were stolen from a garage on Cannon Place overnight.

Don’t mess with him: A resident on Northoak Drive caught a man stealing $1,200 skis from his garage and chased him all the way to Concord.

Kids' games: Teenagers on Stewart Avenue received a stern lecture about not playing dig-dong ditch in their neighborhood this afternoon.

Drunks galore: Creek Diva ventured into town to see her talented friend Natalie Amaya sing at Dan’s, and got a quick tour of Redux on Locust. Sadly, she wasn't too surprised at how many people were arrested on DUI charges. This included an individual leaving Redux about midnight. Assign a designated driver or take a cab; it’s just not worth it.

Saturday, Feb. 12

All juiced up: A man was arrested for stealing juice from behind a bar on the 1300 block of Locust Street at 12:08 a.m. Three others were arrested before 2 a.m. on suspicion of public intoxication.

Oops: A citizen phoned police to report that the “control box to a pipeline that goes through the park is unlocked with the keys in it” near Rudgear and Palmer.

Not cool: A mother told police that her son was pushed into some bushes after leaving school near Cedro Lane. The victim needed stiches for a laceration on his hand. Heal fast, kiddo.

Drink and brawl: Two men were arrested at the community center at Heather Farm Park on suspicion of public intoxication after someone called police about a “huge fight.”
