Crime & Safety

Creek Police Beat: Soccer Players, Beware

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Thursday, March 31

A heavy hit: Burglars hit a business in the Ygnacio Plaza shopping center overnight and took a floor safe and cash.

Empty the car: A thief broke into a white Chevy on Trinity Avenue overnight and stole sunglasses, headphones and an MP3 player. Please take your valuables with you, folks!

Uncivil drivers: To the driver of the silver Audi convertible who was driving erratically on Ygnacio Valley Road about 12:28 p.m.: Please slow down and relax. And, no need to yell at nearby drivers. That goes for you, too, the driver of a gold Civic Hybrid, who was reportedly “throwing something” at a Lexus on Bancroft Road.

Busted for break: You can kiss a fun spring break goodbye, kid! A Foothill Middle School student was cited for being in possession of marijuana this afternoon. He was released to his mother.

A sporting thief: Someone broke into a Toyota Camry on the 2700 block of Oak Road and stole a backpack, tennis racket and tennis balls out of the trunk.

A killjoy caller: Someone called police to complain about people playing soccer at Civic Park, saying they were “ruining the lawn.” Since when does playing soccer ruin the lawn? Anyone know why the fields are closed?

Good job WCPD! Officers recovered a white Volvo that had been stolen from the Renaissance ClubSport parking lot.

Slid right out: A burglar removed a sliding glass door and snuck into a home on Creekside Drive overnight, stealing a Samsung TV, two computers and other items. Readers, do you have any safety tips for securing a sliding glass door?

Dear beagle on Savannah Court: A neighbor called about your barking at 8 p.m. I know it’s your doggie duty and in your DNA to howl. If you ever need a friend to play with, call Creek Diva. She loves beagles! Love, CD

Friday, April 1

Flat tires to you: A white Lagoon beach cruiser bicycle that was locked was stolen from in front of an apartment on Roxanne Court. Please return the bike to the young owner. It was brand new.

A kind act: Kudos to the citizen who found a purse and all its contents on his property on New Haven Court. The purse was returned to its rightful owner later in the day.

Castle Hill Road alert: Two men were seen driving around in a white Chrysler minivan, stealing the contents of mailboxes. The U.S. Postal Service was notified.

Garage break-in: An unlocked Kuota racing bike valued at more than $3,000 was stolen from a secure garage on the 1800 block of Bonanza Street.

Lifters at the gym: This is why gyms tell members to not bring their valuables with them: Two women were said to have stolen a purse from two lockers at the Forma Gym on North California Boulevard.

Saturday, April 2

Early morning blaze: A fire struck a home on Buena Vista Avenue shortly after midnight. Read more .

Lighten up, people: Kids were told to leave Berean Christian High School on El Divisadero Avenue because they were playing soccer. What is the issue with kids exercising in this town?

Watch where you park: Creek Diva has warned readers about parking at night in this area: A thief pulled a smash 'n' grab on a Toyota on the 1200 block of Arroyo Way, making off with a purse containing several debit and credit cards.

Cruelty to cabbies: People, stop trying to rip off cab drivers in Walnut Creek! Yet another person tried to get out of paying his or her cab fare at 3:47 a.m.

Cars vandalized: Burglars broke into several cars parked on Sharene Lane overnight.

Sunday, April 3

Drug arrest: Police arrested a man on suspicion of assault and of being in possession of cocaine with intent to sell at the Vice Ultra Lounge nightclub on Arroyo Way at 1:24 a.m.

Some good news: A thief stole a silver Honda Civic from a parking lot on Creekside Drive, but Lafayette police recovered it some time later. Thanks, Lafayette PD!

Monday, April 4

Industrial job: A job site was burglarized over the weekend on the 1200 block of Springbrook Road. The thief drilled through a lock and took a large number of tools and tool belts. However, some of those tool belts were found later on the job site.

Disrespectful: To the jerk who is spray painting obscenities around Creek Diva's beloved Creekside neighborhood: Knock it off! The kids around here don't need to see your ugly words as they make their way to school.

Panting pooch: Police found a dog owner who had left the pooch in a tan Lexus on Wiget Lane with none of the windows cracked open. With the warm weather just around the corner, please be kind to your animals.

Claims against bouncer: A woman reported that a bouncer at a Locust Street bar had assaulted her the night before. She claims the bouncer “locked her in a room, pushed her against a refrigerator and tried to pull her dress off.”

Should never happen: A red Honda that had been stolen from Antioch was found stripped and burned in Creek Diva's neighborhood. No suspects at this time.

Tuesday, April 5

Homeless accused: Caltrans did a sweep of homeless encampments along the freeways this morning. In the afternoon, someone set fire to a vacant office building on Quail Court, and word is that the fire was started by transients. Read the full report .

Is soccer a crime? More soccer players were told not to play, this time at Arbolado Park at 4:27 p.m.

Park your trash elsewhere: Shame on the people who were seen dumping their garbage at the main entrance of Mount Diablo State Park. Not cool!

Wednesday, April 6

Now, where's the car? An Acura car key was found near Bramble Court.

Converter saga continues: Sadly, yet another catalytic converter was stolen from a Toyota Tacoma that was parked on the 200 block of N. Civic Drive. Three Stockton men were sentenced to several months in jail after pleading no contest to stealing a catalytic converter from a Walnut Creek truck last month, the Contra Costa Times reported. But apparently, other crooks out there are committing the same crime.

A happy guy: A man was standing in the middle of Ygnacio Valley Road and San Carlos Drive at 1:18 p.m. blowing bubbles. Yes, bubbles.

Huge haul: Someone made off with $11,000 worth of power tools from a job site on the 1200 block of Rossmoor Parkway.

Uh oh: Someone keyed the phrase "Leave me alone" on the door of a car parked in the City Hall Parking lot.

Slid right out, Part 2: Someone broke into another home, this time on Sharene Lane, by removing the rear sliding glass between 7 a.m. and  5 p.m. The thief took a TV, jewelry and other items.
