Crime & Safety

Creek Police Beat: The Return of the Streetwalker?

Patch's ace Police Beat writer reads WCPD's bulletin every day—so you don't have to. Here, she summarizes a week's worth of crime trends, as well as the bad, sad, annoying and silly things that keep officers busy.

Here is what people were calling the Walnut Creek police about between April 29 and May 5.

Friday, April 29

A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing burglary tools and pepper spray at 12:31 a.m. near Olympic Boulevard and Alpine Road.

Five cars were towed on Locust Street to make room for the Pacific Fine Arts Festival.

Several cars in the neighborhood of Trinity Avenue and N. California Boulevard were broken into overnight. Major kudos to the WCPD for arresting an Antioch woman on suspicion of committing these crimes. Read more

To the jerk who smashed a window of a Jeep that was parked near Heather Farm Park and stole baseball equipment, shame on you.

We thought they posted online these days for "clients": Two suspected prostitutes were seen at 11:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of N. Main Street. Police contacted the women, who agreed to go back to Nevada, where the world’s oldest profession is legal in some cases.

Gone on arrival: A group of about 15 juveniles were at Alma Park; one was seen allegedly rolling a joint and sticking it into his shoe. Police could not locate the kids, shoe or joint.

Royally Pissed! A caller was irritated at a neighbor who was watching the Royal Wedding from the front lawn of his house at 9:56 p.m. The man agreed to turn off the TV projector and volume.

Saturday, April 30

There will be extra patrol in the Woodlands because someone thinks it’s funny to egg homes in that neighborhood.

Lock those doors! An iPad was stolen from a car that was parked on the 1900 block of Olympic Boulevard. Unfortunately, the car might have been unlocked at the time of the crime. A few hours later another unlocked truck was broken into that was parked at Civic Park. The loss this time: A laptop, two iPhones and other computer equipment.

Missing your Hyundai keys? A kind citizen found a set in the middle of North Main at Cypress streets and turned them in at the police station.

It wasn't me: Someone was launching water balloons from the garage above Starbucks on Locust Street this afternoon. Is this the same group who last year filled balloons up with ketchup and launched them at the same location?

Sunday, May 1

You are 86’ed buddy! A man was arrested on suspicion of theft, because he allegedly bailed on his bar tab at Vice Ultra Lounge on Arroyo Way.

Creek Diva would like to personally thank all the animal lovers in Walnut Creek: She’s noticed quite a few calls about baby ducklings in distress. Kudos to Animal Control for helping the stuck animals out of local storm drains.

The water balloon tossers were back at 9:21 p.m. near Plaza Escuela.

Monday, May 2

Home burglary: A residence on the 1200 block of Homestead Avenue was broken into sometime between April 28 and 9 a.m. this morning. The front door was kicked in and a TV, cash and jewelry were stolen.

He might not get a good job review: An employee of Boudin Bakery allegedly stole an iPad that was left at a table. Broadway Plaza security reviewed surveillance video that showed the employee taking the device. Police contacted the man in question who returned the iPad.

Another rude door-to-door solicitor: Police contacted the manager of a company in charge of door-to-door solicitors after a caller reported that one of his solicitors was “verbally abusive” toward a resident on La Salle Drive this afternoon. Readers, we have reported on rude door-to-door solicitors. Would you be in favor of banning this form of salesmanship in Walnut Creek?

Tuesday, May 3

Locks those doors, Part II: Someone broke into an unlocked Acura that was parked on Trinity Avenue and stole a bag with paperwork. Kudos to the Lafayette police, who helped recover some of the items and arrested the man suspected of the crime.

Quick moving thieves: Two subjects were seen acting suspiciously around Broadway Plaza this afternoon. The two in question were “going into stores very quickly with bags and coming back to a car.” During their "activities," stores reported the loss of several wallets and a T-shirt.

You're outta here: A male bartender at Arties bar on Treat Boulevard  allegedly 86’ed a female from the bar shortly before midnight. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

Wednesday, May 4

Not necessary: A caller reported that the bench along the ridge at Sugarloaf Open Space was covered with paint and graffiti. This ridge is Creek Diva’s favorite spot. Please don’t trash places in Walnut Creek's open spaces. Thank you to reader Elizabeth who informed me that it’s been cleaned up.

Smile and say creepy! A man was seen taking photos of unsuspecting females in the 1100 block of S. Main St. He fled in his green Ford pickup after seeing that he was being observed by the caller who notified police.

Another elderly scam victim: A grandmother in Rossmoor fell victim to the “grandchild in jail” scam and wired $3,000 to someone in Haiti. With this scam, a senior receives a phone call from someone pretending to be their grandson or granddaughter, claiming to be in jail and needing money to be wired to be released on bail. If you have an older loved one or friend, please help pass the word on this unfortunately growing scam.

Thursday, May 5

Those deer-crossing signs on Ygnacio Valley Road are there for a reason. Please slow down at at all hours. RIP deer that was found at 6:30 a.m. near John Muir Medical Center.

A public plea! The sister-in-law of Creek Diva’s dear friend Melissa had her car broken into on Near Court. Melissa had lent her video camera to her sister-in-law, and yes, the camera was stolen, along with her son's birth video. Please return it. Did I mention her husband is a police offer?

Disturbing: A man stole a $30 bottle of booze from a business on the 2900 block of Ygnacio Valley Road. Someone took note of the license plate and that the driver had a small child in the car.
