Downtown Concord to be Partially Closed for Sunday's Obama Rally

Street closure plans released; changes begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Major changes are coming to Downtown Concord tomorrow morning in preparation for the Sunday morning rally featuring President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

The Concord Police Department earlier today released information about the street closures in and around the area of the Statehouse.

Long story short – drivers should avoid the area between Centre Street and Pleasant Street between Main Street and Spring Street from 3 a.m. and noon on Sunday, Nov. 4, and prepare for changes beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

According to Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit inside the department, street closures will start at 8 a.m. on Nov. 3, for vehicular traffic in the following way:

  • School Street will be closed between North Main and Green streets.
  • Green Street will be closed between School and Centre streets.
  • North State Street will be closed between School and Centre streets.
  • Capitol Street will be closed between North Main and Green streets.
  • Park Street will be closed between Main and Green streets.

Some pedestrian access will be limited during this time period.

Starting at 3 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, the following streets will be closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, along with the previous streets listed:

  • North Main Street from School to Centre streets.
  • Centre Street from North Main to North Spring streets.
  • Spring Street from Centre to School streets.
  • Prince Street will also be closed.

O’Malley said police and security administration will make “some accommodations” to residents who live on those streets affected by the closures. But otherwise, the areas will be “locked down,” he said.

Traffic on North State Street will be routed around Montgomery Street.

O’Malley said police hope to have the streets opened up sometime after noon on Sunday.

No specific information on where the president will actually be speaking has been released but tickets say Park Street.

Doors open for attendees at 7 a.m. on Sunday at the corner of North Main and School streets.

Shuttle buses are being provided to drive people from the Meldrim Thomson state office complex on Hazen Drive to Main Street starting at 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Tickets will be available at the New Hampshire Democratic Party Office at 107 N. State St. until 8 p.m. tonight and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are also available during the same hours at the Obama for American Manchester field office, located at 228 Maple St.

Hi Taxpayer, No, I don't believe so. The entire area is being closed off to vehicles and pedestrians. I will double-check though with the police.

I just heard back from the police. They'll touch base with me in the morning and I'll update this post when I find out.

Anyone know what time the event ends or when Obama goes on? I won't be able to get there until 9:50.
