Driver Killed in Solo Crash at Highway 4 and I-680 On-Ramp

Driver of small hatchback killed in collision with sound wall.

Bay City News —  A motorist was killed Saturday night after crashing into a sound barrier on state Highway 4 in Concord, California Highway Patrol officials said.

At about 9:20 p.m., CHP officers were called to Highway  4, near the on-ramp to southbound Interstate Highway 680 where a small Subaru Forrester hatchback was facing the wrong way on the right hand shoulder, according to Officer Scott Cakebread and other CHP reports.

Cakebread said that the vehicle suffered major damage after striking a brick sound barrier running along the eastbound highway. The driver, who was not identified, was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Concord with major injuries and pronounced dead about an hour later.
