DUI Suspect Resists Arrest At Hospital

Police responded to a call for backup when a woman involved in an alcohol-related crash assaulted an officer.

A bevy of sirens screamed down S. Main St. Thursday night around 7:30, responding to a call for backup from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

According to Lt. Lanny Edwards, a woman suspected of driving under the influence crashed her car around 7 p.m. Thursday. She was transported to Kaiser, where she suddenly became argumentative, and then violent. She screamed, thrashed about and, at one point, kicked the officer in the face.

He called for help and three other units responded. But by the time they arrived, the woman had been placed in restraints, and was being treated for minor injuries sustained in the car crash. She was later taken to county jail in Martinez.
