Walnut Creek police reported 84 violent crimes in 2012. That’s an increase of 15 violent crimes over 2011.The number of property crimes also increased from 2,024 in 2011 to 2,050 last year.
In 2012, Walnut Creek had a violent crime rate of 1.2 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 31.1 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Walnut Creek has 77 sworn officers, which is an average of 1.2 officers per 1,000 people, the same average as the East Bay.
