Fire Burns 1 Acre Near Canal Trail in Walnut Creek Sunday Night

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A fire burned about an acre of vegetation along the Contra Costa Canal Trail in Walnut Creek on Sunday night, fire officials said today.

Crews responded around 8:45 p.m. to reports of a blaze in the area of Cela Court and Second Avenue and found grass and other vegetation on fire, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District fire Marshal Robert Marshall.

Firefighters initially struggled to access the fire but were eventually able to control the blaze in about 20 minutes, Marshall said.

No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
