Fire Damages Apartment Unit On Creekside Drive

Firefighters investigating the cause of the blaze

A fire damaged an apartment unit in a residential complex on Creekside Drive in Walnut Creek on Friday afternoon.

The blaze broke out at 2:21 p.m. Contra Costa Fire Department Capt. Lou Manzo said crews arrived at 2:26 p.m. The flames were extinguished a few minutes later.

No one was hurt in the fire, which Manzo said did about $25,000 in damage.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Manzo said an older husband and wife were in their two-story apartment when the fire began. The woman said she was taking a nap in the main bedroom when she heard the smoke detector.

She and her husband called 9-1-1 and then left the building.

The fire started in a spare bedroom and did heavy damage there. There was also smoke damage to the other bedroom and a bathroom.
