A three-story house burned down and flames nearly spread to neighboring homes in Alamo on Wednesday night, a fire marshal said.

The fire was reported at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday at a 4,200-square-foot house at 41 Hagen Oaks Court, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Christina Jamison said.

An occupant of the home called 911 to report a kitchen fire that was creating thick black smoke, Jamison said. When crews arrived, the home was engulfed, with fire spreading to the surrounding vegetation.

A second alarm was called, and firefighters managed to contain the
blaze by around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

The vegetation fire threatened other houses on nearby Ardendale
Court, Jamison said, but firefighters prevented them from catching fire. She
said, however, that there may be some heat damage to those homes.

The house where the fire started was destroyed, Jamison said. A nearby pool house was damaged by the blaze.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, and the home's two residents were displaced and have found other accommodations. The cause is under investigation, Jamison said.
