Update: Cat Dies In Condo Complex Fire

Wednesday morning blaze on Walden Road under control quickly.

Update, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday

The occupant's cat died in a one-alarm fire at a condo complex on Walden Road, Walnut Creek, Wednesday morning, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported.

There were no human injuries reported. The occupant just made it out, said Battalion Chief Rich Sonsteng.

The fire started on the second floor of the unit, Sonsteng said, and caused fire and heavy smoke damage. The cause is under investigation, Sonsteng said, and may have been electrical.

"The crew did a good job of getting the fire out and protecting the other units," said Sonsteng. There was no water or smoke damage to other condos.

The fire was reported at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at 1306 Walden Road. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported the fire under control 19 minutes later.

More information about the blaze was not immediately available.
