Inconclusive Search Around Contra Costa Canal

Emergency crews respond to report of teenager in the area with a boogie board, but no one saw him go in the water.

County emergency crews searched the area of the Contra Costa Canal Trail near Bancroft Road Friday evening out of a fear that a teenager with a boogie board had entered the rain-swollen channel, but there was no confirmation that he had entered the water.

Engine companies searched for almost an hour and found nothing, reported Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Around 7:15 p.m. Friday, a witness apparently saw a teen walking in the area with a boogie board, but no one saw the teen entering the water, Broschard said.

For Walnut Creekers, the report had disturbing echoes of who took a rafting trip on a rain-swollen creek in Walnut Creek.
