Investigators Seeking Information About Arson at Las Lomas Way Home

Contra Costa County fire investigators have evidence that the fire Monday was deliberately set.

Contra Costa County fire officials and Walnut Creek police are asking for the public's help in investigating a "suspicious" fire at a home on Las Lomas Way Monday night.

The blaze was quickly extinguished after it broke out shortly before 9  p.m. Monday at the vacant two-story home in the 100 block of Las Lomas Way. When the fire broke out, the recently sold home was completely covered by a tent for fumigation purposes, fire officials said.

The damage to the home was limited to the front, and estimated to be $8,000. There was no damage to the interior, said Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard.

He added that the fire's cause appeared to be suspicious, though he and other officials would not disclose details about evidence that led them to the conclusion that the fire was arson.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked  to call the Walnut Creek Police Department or Captain Randy Champion at the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District at 925-941-3522.  Witnesses may also call the district’s Arson Tip Line at  1-866-502-7766.
