Locust Street Drama: Four Suspects Flee When Getaway Car Crashes into Tree

Two of the suspects have been caught; two more remain at large.

A shoplifting spree came to a crashing halt late Sunday morning when the stolen car used by the suspects ran into a tree. All four suspects ran from the car, and two were captured by police.

According to Lt. Steve Gorski, two females in Forever 21 on Locust St. ran out of the store with stolen merchandise and got into a waiting SUV parked in front of the store. Near the corner of Locust and Olympic Blvd., the car hit a tree. At that point, all four suspects ran from the scene.

Police arrived and captured two of the suspects, both African American juveniles -- one from Oakland, and another from Bay Point, Gorski said. The other two are described as African American females between 16 and 25 years old.

The SUV was a stolen rental car. Gorski said police found other stolen items from nearby stores, including baby formula from CVS.

The two juveniles in custody have been charged with possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, conspiracy and burglary, Gorski said.
