Man Struck, Injured Trying To Clear Tarp From Northbound I-680

A pedestrian was struck and injured by a car while clearing debris from lanes of Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision just before noon after a man reportedly attempted to clear a tarp from northbound lanes of Highway 680 near the Ygnacio Valley Road exit, according to the CHP.

As the man went into lanes of traffic to retrieve the tarp, a Ford F-250 truck pulling a utility trailer struck him, the CHP is reporting.

He was taken to a hospital with major injuries, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene.

All but one lane along the roadway was blocked as of 12:20 p.m. but lanes were expected to reopen by 12:30 p.m., according to the CHP.
