Motorcyclist Killed in Sunday Crash Identified

Initial reports to the CHP indicated that the motorcyclist and another motorist were driving recklessly before the accident.

A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on northbound Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek on Sunday evening has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 31-year-old Joseph Botsford.

The crash happened just south of Rudgear Road around 5:45 p.m. Sunday and involved four vehicles, including the motorcycle and a Nissan 350Z that burst into flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Botsford, a Walnut Creek resident, died in the crash. Initial reports to the CHP indicated that the motorcyclist and another motorist were driving recklessly before the accident. The crash shut down northbound lanes for about three hours, according to the CHP.
