Motorist Sought Who Hit 72-Year-Old Cyclist from Alamo, Leaving Him to Die in Orchard
The victim was bicycling in Solano County Wednesday when fatally struck by hit-and-run driver, police say.
The Solano County Coroner's Office has identified the bicyclist who was killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday afternoon as 72-year-old Dan Taylor of Alamo.
California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Parker said the initial CHP report that Taylor was riding in a timed interval race is not true.
Taylor was riding east on Putah Creek Road about a mile east of Interstate Highway 505 in Solano County near the Yolo County border, the CHP said.
A westbound vehicle traveling 55-60 mph crossed to the eastbound lane and struck the bicycle around 5 p.m.
Taylor was propelled over the vehicle and landed in an adjacent orchard, the CHP said. He died of multiple internal and head injuries.
The vehicle traveled into the orchard, almost hit a tree and continued traveling west toward Winters, the CHP said.
The CHP believes the vehicle is light in color.
