Firefighters battled a smoky wildfire near Condit and Pleasant Hill roads Monday afternoon.
Fire crews from Lafayette and Walnut Creek battled the one-alarm vegetation fire for almost an hour after it was called in at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The fire had consumed roughly a half acre of grass, trees, poison oak and brushland by the time firefighters were able to reach it.

A Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said the blaze was moving "rapidly" up the hill towards homes on Stow Lane when crews were able to head it off. A fire break at the top of the hill helped to slow the pace, the spokesman said.
The fire consumed two acres and was likely started by a power line that dropped from a blown transformer, reported Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard. It was declared under control at 2:10 p.m.

No citizen injuries were reported. A firefighter was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for a non-life-threatening injury and he was "in good spirits," said Broschard.
