Former student , a 43-year-old Korean national who lived in Oakland, has been charged with seven counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and other charges in connection with the 10:30 a.m. shooting.

Goh, who had left the school voluntarily, appears to have wanted a refund of his tuition, and may have been targeting an administrator who was not present, prosecutors have said.

"There is no place for violence in our society," a statement on the school's web site reads. "All of us have to focus on the value of human life, and on the goodness of each individual."

Goh, who is being held without bail, is scheduled to return to court April 30 to enter a plea. Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley has said she would not make a decision on whether to seek the death penalty until after a preliminary hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to have him stand trial.
