WC Police Arrest Auto Burglar On A Bike

Officers put up perimeter, apprehends Oakland man suspected of smashing a window on a car around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Responding to a smashed-window auto burglary and a suspect fleeing on a bike, Walnut Creek police set up a perimeter in the wee hours Saturday morning and arrested a suspect on Cela Court.

Arrested in the northwest quadrant of the city that has seen an increase in burglaries in recent months was Chris James Yorrie, 38, of Oakland.

At about 3 a.m. Saturday, police received a call of a smashed-window burglary in the area of Matisse Court and Monet Circle. The suspect was described as wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and riding a black BMX style bicycle, according to a Walnut Creek police news release.

Several officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter. Within minutes of arriving, an officer saw a subject who resembled the description in the area of the Contra Costa Canal Trail and North Main Street. As the officer approached, the subject fled on the bike. A search was done in the area by several officers including a WCPD K9 Unit. The suspect was located hiding in the backyard on Cela Court.

Stolen property was located a short distance from where the suspect was hiding, police said. He was taken to County Jail in Martinez and booked for burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and violating his probation, police reported.
