Police Log: A Rash Of Burglaries And Smash-And-Grabs

As we catch up with the December crimes and misdemeanors, we find a lot of thieves went on their own holiday shopping spree.

Ed note: The beloved Creek Diva is no longer writing for Walnut Creek Patch, but we want to thank her for her years of keeping us in the loop vis-a-vis the goings-on of bad and not-so-bad guys and gals around town. Starting today, Walnut Creek Patch will feature a regular police log, and since much of December didn't get reported, we will run a week's worth of log entries now and more later this week.

Friday, Dec. 7, 2012

1: 17 a.m. - A young man was arrested for public drunkenness on the 1300 block of N. Main shortly after midnight, and another man in a similar state of intoxication was arrested on the 600 block of S. Broadway.

1:37 a.m. – A woman was arrested at the corner of S. Main and Newell Ave. for possession of burglary tools and narcotics paraphernalia. 

9:04 a.m. – A business on Maria Lane reported that the odor and smoking habits of a transient living behind the building was beginning to be evidenced in the exam rooms. Police invited said transient to relocate.

10:21 a.m. – A young man with an extremely creepy habit was reported exposing himself on the Canal Trail near the 300 block San Carlos Blvd. He was described as about 18 years old with a green hoodie and jeans. He was gone by the time police arrived.

9:18 p.m. – A driver police say was intoxicated ran into a fire hydrant on the 2200 block of Belford Dr.

10:07 p.m. – A young man was cited on N. Via Monte for possession of marijuana.

Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012

1:34 a.m. – Someone the police describe as a “urinator” fled from police on the 1600 block of N. Main, but was later apprehended and arrested for public intoxication.

2:13 a.m. – A man came home intoxicated and in a lot of trouble after his girlfriend reported him missing. The man told police that his phone died and he went out after work for a few drinks. No word on what happened after police left.

7:45 p.m. – Several males were involved in a fight on the 1300 block of Locust St. after having drinks at a nearby establishment. Apparently a chair from Peet’s Coffee was thrown during the scuffle, giving the scuffle a wild west flavor.

8:14 p.m. – A noise complaint from the 1700 block of Pomar Way involved loud drums. And so it was – police discovered that the source of the noise was a going-away party featuring students from the UC Davis Samba drumming school. As did the honoree, the noise went away.

Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012

1:25 a.m. – A woman at Vice Ultra Lounge on the 1200 block of Arroyo Way was reported hitting a security guard with her shoe. She and her shoes were taken to jail by police on charges of public intoxication.

9:06 a.m. – A car was stolen from the 1500 block of Sunnyvale Ave.

10:51 a.m. – Two cars parked on the 1300 block of Rudgear Rd. had their windows smashed and items stolen from inside.

12:25 p.m. – Another smash-and-grab was reported on the 1600 block of Ygnacio Valley Rd.

Monday, Dec. 10, 2012

10:10 a.m. – A smash-and-grab on the 1400 block of Pico Ct. resulted in the loss of a baseball mitt and an MP3 player.

10:58 a.m. – The transient on Maria Lane (see entry for Dec. 7) was back and was once again advised to find another temporary place to stay.

6:37 p.m. – A business owner on the 2300 block of N. Main St. reported a limo SUV pulled up and several unsober ladies emerged, relieved themselves in the bushes and drove off. They were gone when police arrived.

6:56 p.m. – A woman on the 300 block of Walnut Ave. heard a smashing sound and then her alarm, locked herself in the bathroom and called police. They determined that someone had kicked in the garage door and ran off when the alarm sounded. She was unharmed but undoubtedly frightened.

10:22 p.m. – A woman was getting into her car near Pyramid Brewery on the 1400 block of Locust when a man leaning against the wall suddenly rushed toward her car. She locked the doors and he went calmly back to leaning against the wall. He was gone when police arrived.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012

4:28 a.m. – Someone smashed the glass doors of a department store on the 1300 block of Broadway Plaza and grabbed high-end watches and jewelry.

6:49 a.m. – A car on Sharene Lane was broken into by unknown means and a $1,000 set of golf clubs were stolen, along with an iPod and an iPhone.

7:49 a.m.– A home on the 2000 block of Belford Dr. was broken into through a side door and jewelry and jewelry boxes were taken.

3:21 p.m. – A 10-year-old boy called his mom at work to say someone had drilled a hole in the front door of their apartment. She told him to wait in the laundry room and phoned police, who determined that the landlord had forced entry into the apartment because of a water leak that was affecting the unit below.

7:39 p.m. – A homeless man in a green jacket and a baseball cap was reported with his pants down on the 1300 block of N. Main. He was gone when police arrived.

9:15 p.m. – A smash-and-grab on the 1600 block of Palos Verdes resulted in the loss of a Kindle Fire HD and a backpack.

9:43 p.m. – A Harley Davidson motorcycle was stolen from the 1400 block of Giamonna Dr.

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012

10:45 a.m. – Two men were burglarizing a home on Sunny Ct. when the owner came home and interrupted them. The men fled in a gold Nissan Altima. They made off with jewelry and other items.

11:15 a.m. – A resident of Eccleston Ave. reported seeing two men remove an envelope from a mailbox and drive away.

11:37 a.m. – A woman who will definitely be out of the running for “Mother of the Year” award was cited for leaving her baby alone in the car in front of the European Wax Salon on Ygnacio Valley Blvd.

5:06 p.m. – A woman requested police help when she tried to use her keys to get into her home and discovered that her 3-year-old had engaged the child safety lock, preventing her entry. Meanwhile, a tow truck driver responding to a neighbor’s house helped her get in through a window.

6:00 p.m. – A black Honda Accord was stolen from the Century Theater parking lot between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

10:33 p.m. – A blue Honda Civic was stolen near the corner of Alpine Rd. and Botelho Dr.

Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012

8:55 a.m. – A church on the 1900 block of First Ave. was broken into and checks and desktop computers were stolen.

11:13 a.m. – A Honda Civic was stolen from the 1400 block of Creekside Dr.

Friday, Dec. 14, 2012

11:49 a.m. – A man reported a smash-and-grab from his car at the downstairs parking garage on the 1600 block of S. Main St. A Fender bass guitar was stolen.

1:29 p.m. – A woman on the 1300 block of N. Main St. that another woman, who appeared to be homeless, was panhandling and taking money away from donors who would otherwise give to her cause, noting that she had permits to solicit money from passersby. The homeless woman agreed to move on.
