Police Log: Smash-And-Grabs Rampant

Monday, Jan. 14, 2013

10:52am – A number of smash-and-grabs were reported in the underground parking garage on the 1800 block of N. Main St.

11:02am – A man in his 20s with a scruffy beard and a red baseball hat was appearing as though he was casing a car on the 1400 block of N. Main St. A few minutes later, police say he was involved in a number of smash-and-grabs on Mt. Diablo Blvd. and N. Main St.

1:11pm – A home on the 1500 block of Pebblebrook Court was broken into when someone kicked in the front door; a laptop, jewelry and a cashbox were stolen.

10:27pm – Residents near a shopping center on the 2200 block of Oak Grove Rd. complained that street sweepers were still operating. Police contacted the sweeper operator, who said he was nearly finished.

10:45pm – A smash-and-grab was reported near the corner of Brentwood Dr. and Fernwood Ct.

Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013

7:12am – A peeping Tom was discovered peeping at a complex on the 3000 block of N. Main St.

4:30pm – A person on the 2400 block of Walnut Blvd. reported that their information was stolen and used to drain money from their bank account.

4:52pm – A store manager on the 1200 block of Broadway Plaza reported the loss of $9,000 worth of items from two tables near the front door, including 300 panties worth $7,500. How much underwear does one person need?

7:05pm – An employee of a business on the 2000 block of Treat Blvd. was assaulted by an unknown person driving a truck, who came into the employee bathroom and inflicted two minor cuts on the employee.

Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013

1:05pm – A man in a pink polo shirt and jeans was seen swinging from a light pole at the corner of Bonanza St. and N. Main St., then he took off his shirt. He was gone when police arrived.

1:06pm – A smash-and-grab resulted in a wallet, cash, credit cards and a Gucci bag stolen from a car on the 1600 block of S. Main St.

2:17pm – A transient in his 50s was sitting in front of Comerica Bank for the fourth day in a row, spitting, smoking, asking customers for money and using the restroom. Officers came and explained why that was not ok, and the man moved on.

4:04pm – Another smash-and-grab, this time on the 1400 block of Duncan Dr.

4:56pm – A home on the 200 block of Oak Knoll was broken into via a kicked-down front door and ransacked while the residents were away.

5:27pm – A smash-and-grab on the 1400 block of Duncan Dr. resulted in the loss of boots and an insurance card.

5:43pm – Someone tried to enter a home on the 1200 block of Homestead Ave. through a garage door, but a washing machine blocking the door prevented the break-in.
