Police Log: Urban Camping, Lewd Gestures, Lost Soldier

The following information was taken from the Walnut Creek police log and rewritten by Walnut Creek Patch.

Monday, April 15, 2013

12:34am – A white male in his early 20s was arrested for possession of heroin after he was found lying on the bathroom floor of a business on the 2900 block of N. Main St. In case anyone thinks drug use is somehow romantic, read the first sentence again.

1:53pm – A Hispanic male in his early 20s was reportedly making lewd gestures to a woman driver on S. Main St.

3:44pm – A very frightened woman reported that a man she described as 6 feet, tattoos and mirrored sunglasses came to her door on the 1400 block of Huston Rd. Police investigated and determined that the man was looking for his “Internet romance” and had gone to the wrong address. We wish him all the luck should he find the right address.

6:31pm – A smash-and-grab on the 3100 block of Valley Vista Rd. resulted in the theft of three backpacks belonging to young students. We have to wonder if the teacher believed them when they said “my homework was stolen.”

10:38pm – On the 900 block of Leroy Lane, a resident reported that a woman knocked on the door and said she was soldier, and was lost. Police, responding to the resident’s concern, looked around the neighborhood, but reported that they “could not locate any lost soldiers.”

8:08am – Police received and passed on to Animal Control a report of ducklings in the drain on Bancroft Rd. and Pomar Way, across from the Black Bear Diner. There is, somewhere in this post, a joke about down the drain, but it continues to elude us just now.

9:00am – A woman set up a “camp” on the sidewalk in front of a business on the 1700 block of N. California Blvd., blocking the sidewalk. She was asked to relocate her camp to a less intrusive location. Meanwhile, one hour later and one block over, police received a complaint about a homeless man approaching people in a parking garage and making them uncomfortable.

6:33am – On the 2400 block of Walnut Blvd., a smash-and-grab from a car resulted in the loss of a laptop and jeans.

8:16am – Yet another urban camper, this time homesteading in a parking lot on the 200 block of Ygnacio Valley Rd., was told to move on, and he did.

10:11am – In what is developing into a trend, another tent resident, this time near the Community Garden on the 2900 block of Walnut Blvd., didn’t respond when a park ranger yelled into the tent, but when officers came knocking, the camper decamped and moved on.

10:54am – A bike valued at $2,500 was stolen from an open garage on the 1000 block of Belamy Ct.

3:58pm – A smash-and-grab on Edmund Ct. resulted in the loss of a briefcase filled with tax information.

5:51pm – A burglary on the 3200 block of Sugarberry Lane resulted in the loss of an iPad and a laptop. Thieves broke in through a back glass sliding door.

6:23pm – A smash-and-grab at the public parking lot on Civic Dr. resulted in the loss of a phone charger, but it is believed the car alarm scared off the thief. It’s good to know that those alarms were effective at least once somewhere for something other than annoying people.
