Police: Stabbed Man Was A Suicide

Man found in bathtub in apartment in unincorporated Walnut Creek identified as Patrick Cifor.

The sheriff's office has ruled the discovery of a stabbed man in a bathtub Friday as a suicide and identified the victim as 50-year-old Patrick Cifor.

The autopsy was conducted Monday morning, Contra Costa Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The cause of death was listed as "stab wound of heart," Lee said. There was also a wound to the throat.

Cifor's girlfriend found him dead in the bathtub Friday afternoon, Feb. 8, in an apartment in the 2500 block of Oak Road in unincorporated Walnut Creek.

I have know Patrick since Kindergarten and I have never known him to ever feel sorry for himself, let alone contemplate suicide. He loved live! He enjoyed so many fun things and he loved to share it all with his friends. He was always looking for the next fun thing. Some people do not fit the profile for suicide. Patrick would have never committed suicide. Then there is the whole death by stabbing yourself. Who can push a knife through their own breastplate, not once, but twice. Then shove the knife into your own neck. I don't buy it! Not for a second! Patrick you were loved by many and will be missed by all. Take care My Brother

Another thing: Patrick was an Insurance Agent and he knew that his life insurance policy would not pay if he committed suicide. He has two beautiful daughters. Do you think he would leave them high and dry? Patrick is a lot of things, stupid is not one of them!

Absolutely Michael! Nothing about this adds up or makes any sense at all! If there is not further investigation into a homicide it is a catastrophic failure by law enforcement!

I worked with Pat for over 11 years and I am not buying it either. I will never believe that he took his own life. He loved life. He had two beautiful daughters that he loved very much and his little Yorkies that he adored. He would never just give up on life and leave all those he loved behind. I sure hope that this is not the end and they will reinvestigate this. He was a great man and I will miss him so much.

Question: If Pat had "found" his girlfriend in the bathtub with two stab wounds to the heart and a knife in her neck don't you think he would have been arrested and charged on the spot? Without a doubt!!! The system is biased, blind, and unjust!!!! "Someone" needs to be arrested. I am furious that my friends life was taken and there was no investigation!!!!

Are we in denial? Is this typical of those of us in shock? I don't think so. I will never believe the findings of the investigation. I'd like to see the medical and financial records as well as the autopsy and police report. I have a million questions. Was he bipolar? I doubt it. What was the angle of the knife wound? How was it held? Is it possible for some to stab themselves twice in the heart and then in the throat? I doubt it. Why wasn't the girlfriend of six years at the funeral? WHO was the gf that found him. What was time of death? Did anyone see what time the gf went into the unit? Was she interrogated? Who stood to gain financial? Did he owe money? Answer these questions and I think you either find closure or a path to justice. Perhaps we are better off believing he didn't take his life and let him go like the pastor said. I don't know but it's not something I plan on forgetting for a long time.

I have known Pat for 32 years. He would never take his own life. In past conversations we had talked about that subject. He ended his tumultuous relationship with his ex late 2012. He had found love again and was happy. He had 2 Yorkies that he adored~ His daughters were his Joy and he would never leave them without financial security, much less their Dad. He was intelligent and co owned an insurance agency. He knew that Insurance wont pay if death was a result of suicide. He has always faced every challenge looking at resolution. He owned his mistakes and dealt with challenges with the Grace of a Man, not the Grief of a child. The is no way I will ever believe that Pat Cifor took his own life. I will pray for Justice in this senseless loss. <3 foreverinourheartswick

The coroners report is inconsistent also - they ruled that the cause of death was a stab wound to the heart. How does a dead man stab himself in the heart a second time and then put a knife in his neck? Also, was he at work that day? Did he get a call or text to come home? Had he been dead long enough for her to clean up before calling police. Interesting that he and the "girlfriend" who found him had been broken up since late December and he was dating someone new, yet she found him and claimed herself to be his girlfriend. Nobody questioned that!!! She shouldn't ever have been in his home and why wasn't she at work at 4PM on a friday? I guess you can kill someone, call the police, and claim to be their girlfriend/boyfriend, and be home in time for your favorite prime time television show! I am still enraged!
