School Official Free on $20,000 Bail in Child Porn Case

Walnut Creek police investigate links for Vacaville assistant superintendent Steven Shields.

Steven Shields, an assistant superintendent for the Vacaville Unified School District and former Newark Unified School District administrator, is free on $20,000 bail while detectives continued their investigation, police said Tuesday.

Detective Sgt. Tom Cashion of the Walnut Creek Police Department, the lead detective on the case, said detectives are conducting a forensic investigation of the personal computer and storage devices of Shields, a Clayton resident.

Cashion said they will take the case to the Contra Costa District Attorney's office once the investigation is complete. He said that the WCPD is investigating the case as a felony, but that formal charges will be decided by the DA's office.
