Car Crashes Through Window in GameStop Burglary

Updated: The GameStop in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center was burgled by thieves who drove a possibly stolen car through the front window.

A car was driven through the window of the GameStop on Ygnacio Valley Road early Tuesday morning in a smash-and-grab burglary that caused damage to the business and loss of merchandise.

Concord police investigators said they responded to a burglar alarm at the store at 4 a.m., and discovered the car in the store's front window. Consumer electronic devices had been stolen from the business, according to police.

The suspects had fled the scene, leaving the vehicle where it was.

Concord authorities are investigating the crime and checking to see if the vehicle used was stolen.

As a result of the collision, the large front window of the store has been boarded up and GameStop will be closed until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

This theft takes its place among some of the other unusual and often over-the-top GameStop burglaries that have occured in the past few years nationally.

In January 2011, thieves gained access to a GameStop in Tennessee by tunnelling through an adjacent building. In July this year, an armed thief hit three Sacramento GameStops in the space of one hour.

It's not known yet if the Concord burglary is related to an incident that happened a Radio Shack store on Sunday morning in the Encina Grande shopping center in Walnut Creek.

One window was smashed in the front of that store. No word yet on whether it was vandalism or a robbery. That store was open on Tuesday afternoon.
