UPDATE: Walnut Creek police reported Wednesday that an anonymous citizen returned property, stolen from the home of a World War II veteran Saturday, to the fire station in Pacheco Monday.

The return of this property means that all the property has been returned that was stolen from a Fyne Drive home in Walnut Creek Saturday. This property included an extensive collection of World War II medals and other World War II memorabilia. Sgt. Jay Hill said that all this property has been returned to the family.

Walnut Creek Patch reported Sunday that police arrested a 50-year-old Concord man Saturday evening when he returned to pick up loot he had allegedly stolen from a Fyne Drive home and stashed away in the back yard, supposedly for safekeeping.

The resident, a World War II veteran, called police at about 6:25 p.m. to say that someone had come into his home and taken his extensive collection of World War II medals and other war mementos, said Lt. Shelly James.

Officers, searching the area, found some of the property hidden in the victim's yard. They set up a surveillance to see if the thief would return to pick it up, James said.

And, the alleged thief did. A suspicious car eventually drove up into the area and was stopped by officers. The driver, Michael Anthony Jones, was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for burglary. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, as well as evidence linking him to the burglary.
