Truck Shears Off Fire Hydrant In Downtown Walnut Creek

Fire department shuts off hydrant near Neiman Marcus to make repairs

A semi-truck driver knocked over a fire hydrant in downtown Walnut Creek on Friday morning, sending a gusher of water for commuters to view.

The driver was making a right turn from northbound Main Street onto Mt. Diablo Boulevard when he hit the hydrant, according to Walnut Creek Police Sgt. Sean Conley.

The broken hydrant sent a plume of water into the air in front of the Neiman Marcus store. Patch reader Marie Sutton sent along this photo.

Conley said the fire department shut off the hydrant and will clean up the area and eventually put on a new hydrant.
