Two Major Accidents In Walnut Creek on Sunday

A collision in Rossmoor resulted in serious injuries.

There were two major accidents in Walnut Creek on Sunday.

The first occured at 5:32 a.m., when a juvenile returning home from his senior ball lost control of his car, drove over the median of Ygnacio Valley Road and hit a power pole. The car then crossed over the other side of the road before it struck a fence of a home on Venado Camino, according to Walnut Creek police.

Police closed Ygnacio Valley in both directions for an hour until the power lines could be repaired.

Police say the driver had been drinking and was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was not hurt, but was arrested for DUI and booked before being released to his parents. There was no one else in the car.

A second accident, this one in Rossmoor, resulted in injuries.

According to police, a car on Stanley Dollar Drive lost control and veered off the road and onto the sidewalk at 12:21 p.m. The car hit a pedestrian. Police say both lived nearby, and both were taken to the hospital with injuries. The pedestrian's injuries were said to be serious.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident. The cause is still under investigation.

A Rossmoor pedestrian death was a focus of a report issued last week by the Center for Investiative Reporting.

Thank you city council for gutting the police force that enforces traffic laws around the city. People like my parents who retired in Rossmoor are less safe because of your terrible decision making and skewed priorities. I guess you were too busy covering up the sexual abuse at the Lesher Center to notice our senior population needs help. The other case proves our youngest drivers also need a reminder that our roads are not drunken speedways. I say recall the whole bunch of you!

Too many accidents in Rossmoor!!!! Where are the Police to give tickets to those that are drunk,do not keep to speed limits, and race their cars to get to their activities on time. We need more Police to patrol for DUI and Speeders in Rossmoors as well as electric signs that post speed traveled.

Agree with both of you. Saw it on the news Saturday night. I'm amazed there isn't more press coverage. This type of corruption has no place in our local government.

Please be okay, pedestrian from Rossmoor. I'm pulling for you. And to repeat what the WCPD and CHD posted last week: 'Police also urged parents not to allow their kids to have parties or events at home where alcohol is served. "There are several (close to home) stories about tragedies that have occurred as a result of this lapse of judgment," police said.' It is so sad every time I ride by Belford Drive/Walnut Avenue.
