Two Men Arrested in Arroyo Way Assault

Victim was first treated by firefighters, then transported to hospital with head injuries.

Two east county men were arrested early Saturday after the beating of another man who was first tended to by firefighters in the area of Arroyo Way and Civic Drive.

The victim of the assault outside Vice Ultra Lounge was taken to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening head injuries, according to a Walnut Creek police press release.

Arrested and held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury were Brian Palma, 20, of Antioch, and Johnny Lopez, 21, of Brentwood.

The victim told police he had been pistol-whipped. Police did not locate a firearm but found a bloodied metal object that appeared to have been used in the assault, police said.

Firefighters were in the area on another call around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. They treated the victim and flagged down a police patrol car.

Officers set up a perimeter and found the two suspects in a nearby stairwell, according to the press release. Vice Ultra Lounge security staff helped officers in identifying the suspects, police said.

The two suspects were taken to county jail in Martinez and are being held on $50,000 bail, police said.

If you have information about the incident early Saturday morning, Walnut Creek police encourage you to call at 943-5844.

Johnny Lopez Should have been arrested on that hair cut alone. It is too bad, all he needed was a good grooming, sober out and detox a few months, then take him down off that 'I'm a proud gangster' pedestal he props himself up on each morning, and he would then make a great employee at Jiffy Lube

Yeah that haircut..Wow!
"And now if we can only get some City Council members who will stand behind the police department". That has always been a tough sell in Walnut Creek. The police department, and WC residents by extension, is too often at the end of a long list of other priorities like business owners, arts interests and developers. Sad.

Why are thugs from Antioch and Brentwood coming all the way to Walnut Creek to cause mayhem? What kind of welcome mat have we put out there for them?

it is time to take crime in Walnut Creek seriously. Wake up City Council and developers.
Compile stats of types of crime and where crime occured in the past 10 years. We would note a stark increase in bar-related; vandalism; car, shoplifting and other theft; and assault.

I just deleted two comments for profanity. They were valid comments except for one obscenity picked up by the second commenter. Go ahead and post them again and use that time-honored term, 'ka-ka list.' I'm trying to keep WC Patch standards from sliding, just like you're trying to maintain standards in entertainment establishments, guys.

The Vice Ultra Lounge seems to have put out quite an attractive welcome mat. Fabulous.

its unfortunate, but with an establishment such as vice ultra lounge being in walnut creek it attracts a certain type of problem. i have gone in (with nail marks on the pavement) and the security there is actaully attentive and can get the job done. however, down town walnut creek is not a place for a dance club such as ALL the establishments that have resided in the same place for the past 10+ years.

Yes it is time to take crime in Walnut Creek seriously. According to http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ca/walnut-creek/crime/, WC's crime index is 14 (100 is best), which means Walnut Creek is safer than only 14% of the cities in the U.S. Let me tell you how surprised I was to find that out; I did some research after I was burglarized twice in a two-week span late last year. You can also track crimes/suspicious activity reports on the WCPD Daily Bulletin, http://www.walnut-creek.org/citygov/depts/police/bulletin.asp. At one point in October/November, there were 1-3 residential burglaries in WC every single day and that does not include unincorporated areas, which had a lot also. I wrote to then-mayor Silva, expressing my concerns about the city's crime index (btw, according to neighborhoodscout, Pittsburg [22] and Concord [17] have better indexes and WC is the same as Bay Point) and asked if she and the City Council would address the issue, as crime, especially residential burglaries, appeared to be getting worse and was affecting residents on a daily basis, and the response was oh WC is safe, really. NO IT'S NOT. There is a serious problem all over WC and it needs to be addressed.

Chem trails ... You tube..

The trails I saw at you tube, while bigger than vapor trails, were still very puny compared to theRead More banner cloud formations I saw this, banners stretching straight from East to West (or vice versa) from one horizon to the other. May guess is that they were over 500 feet wide, and I'm still inclined to think the straight-line winds that made the derecho in the East pushed backwards a straight banner of visible water vapor (ie, clouds). Compare the physics to the x-rays that are pushed backwards when matter is sucked into the spiral of a black hole, a new discovery this week.

Thanks, Jim. I appreciate it. Hi Julio, As we all know, Even the late movie guru, Roger Ebert'sRead More fans, sometimes, did not agree with his assessment. This is the beauty of a filmic conversation. There is really no right or wrong. It is highly subjective. Even Rotten Tomatoes sometimes do not agree with Top Critics from around the world.
